The footbridge is part of a tourist route witch connects two small towns separated by a gorge close to the city of Sondrio.
The structural architecture of the bridge is a tensile structure, i.e. a suspended footbridge, with main upper cables and secondary lower cables. The cable system has opposing curvatures in order to stabilize the entire system due to traffic and wind loads.
The bridge structure has the typical characteristics of the suspension bridges. The superstructure basically consists in three parts: a light steel-box section, the aforementioned cable system formed by full locked cables and the two towers. In order to obtain a stable system also for the transverse actions of wind, the lower stabilizing cables are arranged with a spatial configuration.
The walkable width of the bridge is 2.9 m. The towers are 16.4 m height and consist of two steel columns with rectangular hollow section tapered from the base to the up, three transversal beams and an upper cross brace.
The structure of the walkway harmonises perfectly with the surrounding environment. It connects the two sides of the gorge in a light and elegant way.
Maffeis Engineering followed all the design phases, from the preliminary concept to the executive design, and is now supervising the installation phases.
